Lakay’s prospects are uncertain, and Sundowns is on high alert.

Fagrie Lakay, a South African international, has a contract that expires at the end of the month, thus his future with Pyramids FC in Egypt is up in the air. On January 20, 2022, the 27-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Pyramids. At the time, the Cairo-based team beat out Sundowns and Orlando Pirates for his signature.

With Pyramids, the former striker for Cape Town City FC had a respectable season, appearing in 25 games and chipping in with two goals and five assists. But compared to Fiston Mayele, who joined Pyramids at the beginning of the season and had an outstanding season with 10 goals and 4 assists in 29 games, his performance is pitiful. The club has not yet exercised its option to extend the contract he signed, which is scheduled to expire at the end of June. Sundowns, who had made a bid to get Lakay on loan in January, has apparently shown fresh interest in him now.

The Tshwane giants, who are renowned for making calculated additions, might see this as a chance to add Lakay to their attacking lineup. Given his contract circumstances, he might be an easy pick. In January, Sundowns attempted to sign him on loan, but were unsuccessful. It is clear that they are keeping an eye on things to see what transpires.

Lakay’s future will be decided in the upcoming weeks. Lakay hopes to fight for a comeback to Bafana Bafana after losing his spot there.Hugo Broos, the coach of Bafana Bafana, has previously defended his decision not to call up the Pyramids forward. The striker, according to him, is not talented enough to play for his squad. Lakay was left off of Bafana’s final 23-man roster that participated in the AFCON in Ivory Coast and finished third. This season, he has not received a call-up to the national team.
